2021 Seven Eves, Fumé Blanc, From Peramangk Country, Adelaide Hills
This is Ben and Mauricio having a crack with a barrel fermented sauvignon blanc, gentle lees stirring and with no fining or filtration, you’d expect a ridiculously funky number, but I find this wine pleasing on so many levels. There’s a texture which almost reaches cheek capacity, there’s the tang of grapefruit and herbs, but what surprises is the natural acidity bounding along. Imagine drinking fluffy clouds of flavour with the sun trying to burst through as you swallow.
2017 Domaine Chamfort, Les Camassots, From Côtes du Rhône, FR
This red is a blend of grenache, syrah and cinsault and indulges every sense when enjoying it. Up your nose is bright, red fruit and herbs and little purple flowers. Over your tongue is the sharpness of cranberry and raspberries, but the flow over the mouth to the finesse of the tannin and rich yet suppleness of the spicy fruit which finishes.
